WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has rejected a resolution denounced Rep. Lamonica McIver of DN.J., and removed her from the committee overseeing immigration and national security, facing federal accusations stemming from a visit to immigration detention facilities.
The House of Representatives voted 215-207 to take the action. This is an indication that some people are moving forward with the blame while McQuiver’s case is still pending in court. Her case is scheduled for November.
The democratic lawmakers unanimously voted for a table of resolutions sponsored by R-LA Rep. Clay Higgins. Five Republicans joined them, and two others have now voted. When the resolution was being read, some Democrats were furious. “Liar,” he cried. “Shame,” cried the democratic lawmakers. Many Republicans surged out of the Chamber of Commerce before the vote ended. The Democrats cheered, embracing their final tally reading.
“The attempt to criticize me has failed. Naturally, it was an unfounded, partisan effort to silence me,” McQuiber wrote on social media after the vote. “I was not elected to play a political game – I was elected to serve. I will not step back. Not now. Never.”
Republicans have tried to punish McQuiver for his conflict with federal law enforcement. Visit to the council To the new Immigration detention facilities In Newark, McQuiver, New Jersey, pleaded not guilty to a federal charge accusing her of assaulting and obstructing immigrants outside the facility.
The condemnation resolution is allegedly allegedly abolished Homeland Security Investigators’ ability to arrest unauthorized visitors. She is said to have slammed her forearm against her body and forced her to grab the HSI officer. The resolution also said body cameras and other video evidence support allegations made in federal complaints.
The measure said such actions were not reliable to the House and that her ongoing service on the House of Representatives’ Homeland Security Committee was a major conflict of interest. The committee’s portfolio includes oversight of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, which runs the detention centers that McIver attempted to participate in.
This effort was supported by GOP leadership. Some Republicans have expressed disappointment at the outcome.
“We have members of Congress who assaulted ICE officers. We don’t even know what we’re doing anymore,” said Florida Rep. Byron Donald.
Donald said he doesn’t know why some Republicans broke the ranks to back up the move and table a solution to the blame.
Democrat Yvette Clark, Democrat, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said McQuiver’s vote was “a breath of fresh air in such a toxic environment.”
McQuiber Winning a special election After Democratic lawmaker Donald Payne Jr. took office last year. She won a full two-year term in November.
McIver was joined by two other New Jersey Democrats, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman and Robu Menendez, as they visited the privately owned 1,000-bed facility used by ICE as a detention center. Newark mayor, Democrat Las Baraka, was arrested after authorities determined he was not allowed to enter. That fee was later removed. Baraka is suing What he said was a malicious prosecution.
Some of the conflict can be seen in video clips that are nearly two minutes from the visit announced by the Department of Homeland Security.
The video shows McQuiber on the facility side of the chain link fence just before Baraka was arrested on the streets of the fence where others were protesting. She and the uniformed official are seen passing through the gates of the fence, and she screams that she should join the others and surround the mayor. The video then shows a group of people and executives packed full of McQuiber. At one point, her left elbow, and her right elbow, pushes into the policeman in a dark face covering and green olive uniform with the word “police.”
McQuiber He was indicted Attack, resist, obstruct, obstruct and obstruct federal officials in three counts. Two counts have the largest sentence in prison for up to eight years. The third is a misdemeanor with the greatest punishment in a one-year prison.
The house is being criticized 28 members Previously, however, punishment has been delivered more and more on a partisan basis in recent years.
Democrats retaliated with their own denunciation resolutions against R-Fla’s Cory Mills hours before the Mciver vote. Threatening to release intimate videos A report filed with law enforcement shows her personal image after she ended her romantic relationship. Mills denied the allegation.
Mills is also facing an ethical investigation into whether he violated Campaign Finance Act or entered into a federal contract while in office.
The democratic efforts to spotlight Mills seemed to serve as a warning to Republicans and a warning that they were ready to make a similar condemnation resolution in response to McIver’s targeting.
“At the other side of the aisle I have a colleague who has made very serious accusations against them. We don’t need to let it go for the Americans,” Clark said.
