Aston Villa will reintegrate its 150,000-pound goalkeeper after failing to make a move to Premier League rival Manchester United.
Emiliano Martinez revealed in his mind that he had left the villain at the summer transfer window at the end of 2024/25.
Despite genuine interest from Man United, it never happened, but he claims he was sitting on a phone waiting for a call that never came on the deadline day.
After the Red Devils sign Senne Ranmen instead, Martinez sets out for an international mission with Argentina and returns to Birmingham with his tail between his legs. At least he didn’t hit Peter Odemwingie’s level.
It doesn’t seem like there’s much bad blood between the 33-year-old and the club and its supporters. He never acted negatively, but made it clear that he wanted to leave.
Opinion: Emi Martinez used to be Aston Villa’s d*ckhead, but now it’s just an ad*ckhead
Still on a £150,000 Veera contract, Martinez reportedly has Unai Emery’s plans despite hoping to leave and be away in his latest Premier League match with the club Crystal Palace.
After Argentina returned against Brentford eight days ago, Marco Bizotto replaced him with the team. It is unclear who will move forward first.
What’s clear is Emery’s attitude towards Martinez’s reintegration.
According to Athletic, he returns to the first team setup after a failed attempt to join United.
However, his immediate future depends on “how he will react after Martinez returns.”
A report by Jacob Tanswell stated:
Emiliano Martinez is expected to be reintegrated into the Aston Villa squad after the goalkeeper failed to secure a move to Manchester United during the transfer deadline.
Sources close to Martinez and Villa spoke on condition of anonymity to protect the relationship, telling Athletic that the plan is telling Argentines that they can return and choose after an international break.
However, this depends on how Martinez reacts after his return, and the long-term future at the club is uncertain. The 33-year-old was not included in Unai Emery’s team, losing 3-0 to Crystal Palace on the penultimate Sunday of the window, due to doubts about his future.
Martinez is currently in charge of international duties and holds a clean sheet when he won Argentina 3-0 on Friday morning Venezuela.
Speaking of goalkeeper, Argentine boss Lionel Scaroni said:
“Of course, he must have been excited by the idea of playing for Manchester United, like people said, but he’s a positive kid. He’s already focused on us and once he gets back to his club, he’s focused on them.”
