Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoenes has accused Newcastle United of paying the odds of German striker Nick Urtemade.
The 23-year-old left Stuttgart last month by Magpies, reportedly costing the first £73 million in a deal that could rise to £78 million (€90 million).
The 6ft4 striker is tasked with filling the void left by Alexander Isaac, and hopes to build on the 17 goals he scored in 2024/25.
It’s not Woltemade who carries the attack on Eddie Howe after Yoane Wissa joined in with a £55 million report from Brentford.

There is no doubt that Newcastle was desperate towards the end of the transfer window. Woltemade forwarding highlights this.
They knew there was a UK record ISAK fee to provide fees that Stuttgart could not refuse and to cover the costs.
The summer business carried out by Premier League clubs is said to have been “completely crazy” by Hoeneß, who is not a fan of Newcastle and Saudi Arabia’s wealth.
“It’s like an exclusive. If you go to Shrössalli, you’ll see a Shake and you can buy it,” he said.
Hoeneß explains that he considers Bayern to be the “real winner” of the summer window and wanted Florian Wiltz and Ultemaid, but they were too expensive.
“One farmer came to another farmer and I sold two cows for 50,000 euros each and four chickens for 25,000 euros each,” the Bavarian icon joked as they discussed the inflated market.
“Of course we wanted to have Florian Wiltz, but we would never have bought him for 150 million people.
“We wanted to have Nick Ultemade, we provided 55 million people.
“But what Newcastle is doing has nothing to do with football. It’s like monopoly. You go to Shróssalli and the Shake comes in and you can buy it.”

German legend Rossard Massaus predicted that Ultamaid would leave Stuttgart because Newcastle in Newcastle paid, but the rebellious Wheness insisted that he was “lucky” and that the player was absolutely unworthy.
“He (Matt South) was just lucky. Rosarle feels he’s here right now, but I don’t agree with him.
“He (Woltemade) is not worth 90 million people. It only happened because of the money that flowed from Saudi Arabia.”
Earlier this week, Hoeneß calls on German football to resist the temptation of foreign money, hoping that the Bundesliga will build a path of its own.
He said:
“This cannot end well. We should show strength and not take the money of the Arabs, an American hedge fund. The DFL must ensure that Bundesliga clubs do not need to accept this money.”
