According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there is one reason behind the decision on whether Manchester United will offer a “new contract” to major stars.
In the summer, Man UTD was naturally focused on transfers as he invested around £230 million to sign Benjamin Sesco, Brian Mbeumo, Mash Kuña and Sen Lammens.
The Red Devils also worked on the exit to balance the book, with Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hozilund, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho moving elsewhere.
Now it appears that Man Utd has settled the contract situation, and Romano claims he wants to “discuss the new contract” with Lisandro Martinez.

The 27-year-old was assigned as an ideal signature after working together at Ajax by former boss Eric Ten Hag.
Martinez shined during his debut season with Man Wood to silence critics, but injuries have affected him over the past few seasons.
Argentina International has not taken action since February with an ACL injury, but Romano understands that he will “return as quickly as possible.”
Martinez only has a contract until 2027, and Romano makes it clear that his “situation” is “to be followed” in the coming months.

Romano also confirmed that he is keen to quickly resolve Martinez’s future, as he “don’t want to go to the second half of 2026.”
“The contract at Man UTD will be an important part of the club’s focus after this summer’s transfer period,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“From what I said, one of the situations to follow is one of Lisandro “Riccha” Martinez. Richa is injured. Richa is currently not available, but I’ll be back as soon as possible.
“My understanding is that Man Utd wants to discuss a new contract with Licha. He ended his contract in 2027. ManUtd doesn’t want to be in the second half of 2026, which has not yet extended its contract to avoid the issue.
“So, what Man Utd is going to do is negotiate with Martinez before he arrives in the final year of his contract.
“We’re waiting for players to come back now. Of course, there’s no rush and no pressure, but certainly Man Utd wants to try it as soon as possible.
