Historically catered to classroom users, NoteTaking App GoodNotes is launching a new feature for professionals today. These include new collaboration whiteboard tools, the ability to create documents, and AI assistants that allow users to summarise and create content.
GoodNotes AI can work in a variety of input methods, including handwriting, typing, sketching, and audio. The company said assistants can summarise meetings, create visuals such as charts and diagrams, proofread text, create document templates and take notes.
Last year, the company acquired a Korean startup that is working on meetings and video summary. GoodNotes is currently using technology from its acquisition to enhance some of these new features.

Alongside AI, the company is launching a whiteboard feature that uses text and diagrams to allow users to collaborate on blank canvas. The startup is also adding a way for users to create documents that contain text, images, GIFs and tables.
GoodNotes doesn’t just integrate documents into the platform. Productivity platforms like Grammarly and Canva are tweaking users to create more documents within the app. This increases the context for AI assistants to answer user queries.
“We still have a large user base of students, but we want to expand our products and become useful for everyone, especially professionals. Text documents are popular in the office with many types of people, and whiteboards are perfect for collaboration using a variety of tools.

The company is debuting two new plans called GoodNotes Essentials and GoodNotes Pro. Essentials is $11.99 a year and includes access to new file formats, Q&A AI and mathematics. Pro costs $35.99 a year and includes integration with Google Calendar and OneDrive, private link sharing and collaboration, desktop AI bots to record and transcribe meetings, and suggestions for AI-powered content.

The startup said there is a limit to the amount that AI users can use, even with PRO plans. You can also sell your AI Pass for $10 a month and earn unlimited AI credits.
The company offers Apple device users a one-time purchase option of $35.99, but it is offered without cloud sync or cross-platform support.
GoodNotes was launched as an iPad app in 2011, but has added support for iOS, Android and Windows over the years. The startup said it has more than 25 million active users per month, starting from 21 million in 2023.
