Openai is expanding its budget-friendly ChatGPT subscription plans beyond India. The company launched a $5 ChatGPT GO paid plan for users in the country last month, and is currently rolling out the same plan in Indonesia at RP75,000 ($4.50) per month.
The ChatGPT GO plan is a middle tier subscription option between Openai’s free version and its premium $20-Month ChatGPT Plus plan. Users get a usage limit of 10 times the free plan for sending questions and prompts, generating images, and uploading files. The plan also allows ChatGpt to remember the previous conversation better, allowing for more personalized responses over time, ChatGpt Head Nick Turley said in X.
Turley said that since the company launched its ChatGpt Go plan in India, paid subscribers have more than doubled.
The move led Openai to compete directly with Google and launched a similarly priced AI Plus subscription plan in Indonesia earlier this month. Google’s AI Plus plan gives users access to Gemini 2.5 Pro chatbots and have creative tools for creating images and videos, such as Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3. The plan also includes enhancements to Google’s AI Research Assistant NotebookLM, which integrates AI capabilities into Gmail, Docs and Sheet, and integrates 200GB of cloud storage.
