“This is the worst nightmare for all rabbis or all Jews,” said Ravisionnathan Roman of the Maidenhead Synagogue and Ravisionnathan Roman, head of the British Court of Rabbinick. “This is not only a sacred day, but also the most sacred in the Jewish calendar, but also an age of gatherings.”
Witness explains the car driving towards the synagogue and the stabbing attack
In a series of posts about X, Greater Manchester Police said they were called to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congress Conference meeting after 9:30am. The caller said he saw the car being driven towards a member of the public and saw a man stabbed.
Chaba Lewin, who lives next to the synagogue, said she heard the bang and thought it was fireworks until her husband ran through their house and said there was a “terrorist attack.”
Witnesses told her they saw the car crashing irregularly into the gates of the place of worship.
“She thought maybe he had a heart attack,” Lewin said. “The second he got out of the car, he started stabbing someone near him. He went for the security guards and tried to break into the synagogue.”
Minutes later, police fired the shot, saying they believed they had hit the assailant.
A social media video showed police pointing with guns at someone lying on the ground beneath David’s blue star on the brick wall of a synagogue.
On the video, bystanders were heard saying that they had a bomb and were trying to explode it. As the man tried to stand up, a gunshot rang out and he fell to the ground.
Police later exploded and entered the suspect’s car.
Manchester has been Britain’s most deadly attack site in recent years, and the 2017 suicide bombing was a suicide bombing at the Ariana Grande concert, which killed 22 people.

Shortly after the attack, police declared “Plato.” This is the national codeword used by police and emergency services in responding to “looting terrorist attacks.”
Prime Minister Kiel said he was appalled in the attack and additional police officers would be deployed at British synagogues.
He returned home early from the summit of European leaders in Copenhagen, Denmark, to chair the government’s emergency committee meeting.
“The fact that this happened in Yom Kippur, the sacred day in the Jewish calendar, makes it even more frightening,” Starmer said on the X platform.
King Charles III said he and Queen Camilla were “deeply shocked and saddened” to learn of the attack “on such a critical day for the Jewish community.”
“Our thoughts and prayers lie with all those affected by this appalling incident and we are extremely grateful for the prompt action of emergency services,” he said on his social media feed.
