Kyiv, Ukraine (AP) — Russian troops launch powerful glide bomb As European military aid to Kiev plummets and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy prepares for further action, officials said Tuesday that a drone struck a hospital and injured seven people in a nighttime attack on Ukraine’s second-largest city. Ask US President Donald Trump For Tomahawk missiles.
A Russian attack on Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine hit the city’s main hospital, forcing the evacuation of 50 patients, regional director Ole Sinyevov said. Zelenskiy said the attack’s main targets were energy facilities, but did not provide further details.
“Every day and every night, Russia attacks power plants, power lines and our (natural) gas facilities,” President Zelenskiy said on Telegram.
Russia’s long-range attacks on neighboring countries’ power grids part of the campaign Since then, Moscow launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022 to cut off Ukraine’s electricity supply, cutting off heating and running water for civilians during the harsh winter.
Ukraine’s leader has urged other countries to blunt Russia’s long-range attacks by providing more air defense systems to the country, which is roughly the size of Texas and difficult to protect from the air.
“We look forward to action from the United States, from Europe, from the G7, from all our partners who have these systems and can provide them to protect our people,” Zelenskiy said. “The world must force Moscow to come to the real negotiating table.”
However, the latest data on foreign military aid to Ukraine showed a sharp decline in recent aid.
Germany’s Kiel Institute, which tracks aid to Ukraine, said on Tuesday that military aid fell by 43% in July and August compared to the first half of this year.
The decline occurred after the creation of a fund that pools contributions from NATO member states, excluding the United States, to purchase American weapons, munitions, and equipment for Ukraine. This financial agreement is known as the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).
Despite the shortfall in U.S. contributions, military aid in the first half of 2025 exceeded the amount sent between 2022 and 2024, according to the institute.
Zelensky is scheduled to meet with President Trump in Washington on Friday.
The talks are expected to center around the possibility of the United States supplying Ukraine with sophisticated long-range weapons that can counter Russia.
President Trump has warned Russia that it may send Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine for use. Such a move was previously ruled out by the US government for fear of escalating the war, and would deepen tensions between the US and Russia.
But it could be a lever to force Russia into negotiations. President Trump expresses dissatisfaction Regarding Russian President Vladimir President Putin refuses to concede On key aspects of a possible peace agreement.
The Tomahawk missile will be the longest-range missile in Kiev’s arsenal and could accurately strike targets deep in Russia, including Moscow. Unlike the drones Ukraine has previously used for such attacks, the Tomahawk carries a much heavier warhead and flies at a lower altitude to avoid air defenses, making it more difficult to intercept.
Ukraine’s long-range attacks have already hurt Russia’s oil production, according to Ukrainian officials and foreign military analysts.
Attacks using newly developed long-range missiles and unmanned aircraft have caused extensive damage. Russian gas shortagesays Zelensky.
