Nottingham Forest have confirmed they have sacked Ange Postecoglou after owner Evangelos Marinakis made a “phone call” during Chelsea’s defeat.
Chelsea compounded Postecoglou’s misery by defeating Nottom Forest 3-0 at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.
Postecoglou was already under huge pressure ahead of this game and needed a win against Chelsea, but suffered another disastrous result.
Saturday’s 3-0 defeat means Postecoglou is without a win in eight competitive matches at Notum Forest, with six losses and two draws.
Forest were easily the favored team in the opening 45 minutes against Chelsea, but were unable to convert any chances and were punished in the second half. Goals from Josh Achiampong, Pedro Neto and Reece James sealed the match in Chelsea’s favor.

The respected X account, which has an “elite team of five reporters,” tweeted just before the final whistle that owner Marinakis had decided to fire Postecoglou.
They said they would be fired for X: Exclusive: Ange Postecoglou.
“@NFFC owners are calling as I type this.”
Shortly after finishing his full-time shift, journalist Ben Jacobs tweeted: “Breaking news: Ange Postecoglou has been fired as Forestry Commissioner.”
And the club has acknowledged this. They said in X: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Mr Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect following a series of disappointing results and performances.”
“The club will not be commenting further at this time.”
Before the game against Chelsea, BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel revealed that Forest had “developed” a new manager during the international break.
Mokbel insists Fulham manager Marco Silva is the “preferred option” to replace Postecoglou, with Sean Dyche and Steve Cooper also “being considered”.

Mokbel wrote on BBC Sport: “The process of identifying a replacement for coach Ange Postecoglou in the event of his sacking is ongoing and is understood to have been developed during the international break.”
“Fulham head coach Marco Silva is on the radar of Forest, and sources say the Portuguese is the preferred option for many parties at the City Ground.”
Sources have told BBC Sport that the possibility of reappointing Steve Cooper, who brought Forest back to the top flight in 2022, is being considered until he is sacked in December 2023 and replaced by Nuno.
“As reported by BBC Sport last week, another option being considered is the appointment of Sean Dyche. Dyche lives near Nottingham and is available for free as he left Everton earlier this year.”
Manager Glenn Hoddle said of his dismissal: “Having (Evangelos Marinakis) leave after 60 minutes was a statement in itself. After the game, I was surprised he left so quickly.”
“Eight games haven’t been going well, but after eight games as a manager you don’t have any time at all. Certainly he needs to be given more time than that.
Peter Crouch added: “The vacancy spoke volumes. It was clear that a decision was going to be made. I thought he (Evangelos Marinakis) might have a few hours to spare, but this chairman didn’t do that.”
