Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is aiming to sign one of his five targets in January and has ‘said yes’ to a £50m move, according to reports.
The Red Devils have been very active in the transfer market in recent months. In the summer they spent around £230 million signing Benjamin Sesco, Brian Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Ramens.
These signings fill the void left by the departures of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony.
This leaves Man United looking in a stronger position than last season, with Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield being their most important victory to date under Amorim.
Still, Manchester United are short on specific positions and are in the market for a new midfielder after failing to sign Carlos Baleva from Brighton in the summer.
United were considering a move for Valeva in the summer as Brighton wanted more than £100m for their prized asset. Nevertheless, he remains an option for the January transfer window, with Crystal Palace standout Adam Wharton another option.

Now, according to a report written by journalist Fraser Fletcher to his colleagues at TEAMtalk, Amorim has said “yes” to a £50m move to reunite him with their “primary target”, Sporting Lisbon star Morten Hulmand.
Hjormand’s current contract has a release clause of £70m, but Man United are “optimistic” of signing him for £50m next year.
United are said to have a further four targets in mind, including Wharton, Baleva, Jobe Bellingham and Victor Fromholt.
Manchester United will also have to work on contracts in the coming months, including centre-back Harry Maguire, who is due to become a free agent in 2026.
According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United have made a “major decision” to sign Maguire, with former Premier League chief scout Mick Brown saying they “hope to offer Maguire a new contract”.
“Harry Maguire is an important player as far as United are concerned,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He sets the standard every time he steps on the pitch and we know he has his limits, but who doesn’t?
“His heading ability is very important at the back because United don’t have another defender who is willing to do the dirty work like he does and he is a huge threat to the opposition.”
“If they weren’t convinced yet how important he was, they’ll see after that performance against Liverpool.
“And what he does behind the scenes too. There are a lot of young players at the club and he’s a great influence and role model for them, especially defensively.”
“In terms of his contract situation, I expect them to offer him a new contract and from what I’ve heard he would be happy to stay if possible.
“That’s probably more likely than ever before, and it’s very important that we get it done.”
