Rivian plans to cut an additional 600 jobs, or about 4% of its workforce, in its third round of layoffs this year, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The company previously cut approximately 100 to 150 employees in its commercial and manufacturing teams in September and June, respectively. Rivian declined to comment on which teams would be affected by the latest round of layoffs.
The job cuts come as Rivian prepares to launch its most important mass-market model, the R2 SUV, in 2026. The company plans to produce up to 150,000 EVs a year at its plant in Normal, Illinois. Rivian also recently broke ground on a new factory outside of Atlanta, where it plans to build more R2s and other variants.
But until the R2 launches, Rivian is struggling to maintain sales pace with its current lineup. The current best estimate for total deliveries at the end of 2025 is a 16% decline from last year’s sales.
