Arsenal could sack Mikel Arteta at the end of the season if he fails to win the Premier League title, according to reports and Wayne Rooney.
The Gunners beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday, closing the gap on Liverpool by five points in recent weeks, moving them to the top of the Premier League and sealing the title.
Liverpool have lost four straight in the Premier League, but Arsenal have won their last four games and have built a seven-point lead over Arne Slott’s defending champions.
Bournemouth currently pose as Arsenal’s biggest challenger in the Premier League, with Andoni Iraola’s side currently in second place, four points behind Arteta’s side.
Arsenal have also been criticized for scoring most of their goals from set-pieces this season, with critics saying it is not sustainable and they should start scoring more from open play.
And Manchester United legend Rooney insists Arteta should be sacked in the summer if he doesn’t win the Premier League title with Arsenal this season.

“I think the team is good enough now and has the experience to get close to that, but I think we’re ready,” Rooney told BBC Sport.
“If we don’t win now, we’ll probably have to change the coach.”
And now Spanish website Fichajes is claiming that Arsenal’s board “has doubts about Mikel Arteta’s project, in which they have invested more than £1 billion and have not won a major title since 2021.”
The Gunners’ board’s patience is now “starting to wear thin” as they search for silverware, so the Premier League club “will decide whether to continue with their current approach or embark on a new path” at the end of the season.
The report added: “Although Arsenal’s board has not announced an immediate decision, the sporting and financial indicators are worrying.” If Arteta doesn’t show results now, his continued contract could be called into question. ”

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuha insists Arteta’s Arsenal are the best team in the Premier League and it’s not all about set-pieces.
Onoha told BBC Radio 5 Live: “What’s interesting is there are some misconceptions that we have and that applies to Arsenal as well. People call them Set Piece FC and things like that.”
“But they have the most shots in the Premier League and are tied with the team that conceded the fewest goals, chances and shots.
“They’re great. They’re at the top of the league and they deserve to be there.”
Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott added: “Arsenal can do anything now. There’s an element of fear in the whole team.” Former Gunners striker Theo Walcott added on BBC Sport: “People are just afraid of them and that’s great to see.
“It’s starting to become the norm for them not to concede goals. They’re going to go through bad patches and last year we had too many draws, but I don’t think that’s going to happen this year. There’s belief across the club now.”
