NEW YORK (AP) — Newly discovered Dr Seuss The manuscript, which features the Cat in the Hat and celebrates America, is scheduled to be published just in time for next year. 250th anniversary of America’s founding.
“Sing the 50 States” is the first complete manuscript written by Dr. Seuss (real name Theodor Geisel), discovered posthumously. “What kind of pet should I keep?” In 2015.
The purpose of this new book is to teach readers the names of states. “To sing 50 America, you have to use your head,” advises the Cat in the Hat. “Massachusetts. Minnesota. Missouri and Montana. Miss Mississippi. Maryland! Michigan and Maine!”

The manuscript was discovered earlier this year in archival materials at the Geisel Library at the University of California, San Diego. Geisel also left sketches for the cover and notes regarding the overall art direction. The new illustrations were drawn in the style of Dr. Seuss by artist Tom Brannon.
Random House Children’s Books plans to publish the book on June 2, 2026, with an initial run of 500,000 copies.
