Jamie O’Hara has claimed that even Jurgen Klopp did not win the Premier League with Jurgen Klopp’s team, despite Liverpool manager Arne Slott winning the Premier League title with ‘Jurgen Klopp’s team’.
Just months after winning the title, Slott is now a legitimate contender in the Premier League sack race, but his side have lost six of their last seven games across all competitions.
Liverpool at its worst: The story
They have already lost six times this season. Only 9 goals in total for the 2024/25 season 14 goals conceded in the Premier League – more than Everton, same as Manchester United, Leeds, Brentford and Fulham Since 27 September, Liverpool have lost the most games in Europe’s top five leagues (6) The 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup was the first time since 1934 that Liverpool had lost by three goals without scoring in a domestic cup match at Anfield.
Liverpool cantered to the Premier League title last season and were in a strong position to challenge for a quadruple crown before being eliminated by the eventual winners in the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Reds, who spent over £400m in the summer transfer window and were expected to retain the title, have shocked everyone with a dramatic drop in performance and are currently seventh in the Premier League.
Over £100m new signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirths have struggled to adapt, with Hugo Ekitike perhaps the only truly successful new signing, who remains Slott’s second-choice striker behind Isak.
Liverpool’s leaders did not back Slott extensively in his first transfer window after replacing club legend Jurgen Klopp, but after proving he was an elite manager, he was given an unprecedented amount of money.
Now that Slott has bought out “players” and struggled to move away from the foundation laid by his predecessor, critics and supporters alike are starting to pull the knife.

Slott won with ‘Jurgen Klopp’s team’ — when Klopp didn’t win
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara took part in a debate with Liverpool supporters on Sky Sports News on Thursday, claiming Arne Slott was “seeing what he’s like as a manager” after winning the title with “Klopp’s team”.
“However, it was Jurgen Klopp’s team,” O’Hara said. “That was Jurgen Klopp’s team.”
After being told that Slott had changed his playing style to a more calm approach, O’Hara replied: “That was out the window because Arne Slott brought in his own players. And now we’re seeing what Arne Slott’s team really is: a team that won the league.”
“Okay, I understand. He adjusted and got better defensively, but that was on Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“The mentality of those players came from Jurgen Klopp: what it means to play for Liverpool, what it means to defend, what it means to be disciplined, what it means to play for the badge. With new players coming in, all that has disappeared.”
“I know it will take time and that’s true. There have been big changes, but he won the league with Jurgen Klopp’s team.
“This is his team and we are now seeing what Arne Slott is as a manager and he is struggling.”
In response, Liverpool fans raised valid points. Even with Klopp, Klopp’s team cannot win the Premier League.
A bemused O’Hara countered that Klopp had won every trophy available to him with Liverpool, when in reality the German had only won the Carabao Cup with this group of players.
In fact, since rebuilding his midfield, Klopp never won a Premier League or Champions League title again, but Slott won the title on his first try.
So the argument that Slott won the league because it was “Klopp’s team” doesn’t really hold up if the manager who built the team couldn’t have done it himself.

O’Hara is right about one thing: Slott is under pressure.
O’Hara continued: “He has a great week ahead of him, big games against Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
“They’ve lost six out of seven games. You can laugh at that, but it’s a bit of a joke. They’re against Liverpool Football Club and they expect to compete at the highest level. If he loses three more games, who’s going to say he’ll make it to Christmas?”
“Seriously, Liverpool have to win the league, that’s their job.
“They have already lost games they should have won. They have not performed well and we have some tough games ahead of us.
“They lost tonight. If we lose against Villa at the weekend, the results will be gone again. Then we will play Real Madrid and then Man City. All of a sudden we are facing eight or nine defeats in two months. The job is under pressure.”
With Liverpool’s poor form and Slott effectively conceding a draw in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace, the Dutch head coach is under huge pressure to turn things around.
At this stage, it still seems unlikely that Slott will be sacked, but if he shows no signs of improvement, or if it becomes clear that he cannot steady the ship, it will raise some very troubling questions.
After all, football is a ruthless business.
