Liverpool are reportedly “considering” selling their star player to Real Madrid in a bid to complete a deal for the Premier League’s £70m-rated player, who is “eager” to join the Reds in 2026.
The Reds spent around £450 million in the summer and have won five games after five games in the Premier League. However, after nine games, they only had five wins and lost the next four.
Arne Slott insists he is happy with his job and the team, but amid somewhat premature hints that he could be sacked, there are rumors of a link-up with a big name to turn things around.
One potential suitor is Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, who is “enthusiastic” to join Liverpool in 2026, according to Football Fancast.
The report cites a price tag of £150m, although most retailers are putting the figure at a much lower £70m.
In any case, Liverpool are said to be ‘considering’ Real Madrid’s interest in Alexis Mac Allister in a bid to sign Wharton.
The La Liga giants have been frequently linked with a move for the Argentine midfielder, with an X insider suggesting they are “ready to make a bid” for him.
The Palace man is a more genuine holding midfielder than Mac Allister, who is tasked with playing there for Liverpool anyway. A heat map of the pair shows that Wharton is more comfortable playing in his own half, while Mac Allister is usually in the opposition half.
According to SofaScore, Mac Allister has completed 0.8 key passes per game in the Premier League this season, while Wharton’s figure is much higher at 1.8.

Defensively, Wharton makes more interceptions, tackles, recoveries, and clearances, wins more possessions, and is dribbled through less often.
So the addition of Wharton looks like an upgrade on both sides of the ball.
A report from an insider account has provided further information about a possible move for Liverpool.
Wharton’s Palace team-mate Marc Guehi is set to join the Reds, while the Reds are also said to be planning to make an offer for Antoine Semenyo.
It is not directly clear when any of these will happen, but they are all said to happen over the “next two periods”, although Palace are aware that he has no intention of staying beyond his current contract, so Gehi is likely to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
