Man United legend Michael Carrick has responded to speculation he could replace Vitor Pereira as Wolves manager following the sacking of the Portuguese manager.
Wolves decided to sack Pereira on Sunday as the Premier League club seek their first league win of the season.
They have drawn two and lost eight of their 10 Premier League games this season, with the 3-0 defeat at Fulham being the final straw for the Wolves board.
Pereira only recently signed a new contract with the club, but Wolves executive chairman Jeff See explained why he had to take action:
“Unfortunately, this season has had a disappointing start and despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and games to find improvement, we have reached a point where changes must be made.
“We thank Vitol and his staff for their efforts and wish them the best of luck in the future.”

Following the news, Pereira wrote on Instagram: “It was a privilege to manage Wolverhampton Wanderers and experience some unique moments with the club and its supporters.
“I would like to thank the club’s owners for their faith in me, the players for their hard work and dedication over the past few months, and the entire staff for making me feel like part of the family.
“We wish the club all the best for the remainder of the season.”
Former Man United midfielder Carrick, who was released by Middlesbrough in the summer, is one of The Athletic’s candidates for a move to Wolves, with Gary O’Neill and Rob Edwards also claimed to be in the mix.

The Athletic report added: “Former Middlesbrough manager Carrick is also highly rated and, like O’Neill, is currently unemployed.”
“It is unlikely that these three will be the only candidates, as the club will want to make a personnel decision sooner rather than later, but that will not necessarily be the case by Wolves’ next game against Chelsea on Saturday.”
Regarding the possibility of being appointed manager at Molineux, Carrick said at MOTD2:
“I have a free eye and I’m not thinking about anything. I’m still learning and trying to improve from that side.
“But I enjoy doing things like this (media work). It’s a change, spending time with my family and seeing what happens next.”
