Ruben Amorim reportedly “secretly chuckled” at the suggestion that he and Ange Postecoglou were in the same situation after Tottenham beat Manchester United in the Europa League in favor of a “bigger club”.
Losing to Spurs in last season’s Europa League final was one of the worst moments of Amorim’s career. He recently spoke about how he considered resigning as a result of the 1-0 defeat, which was a tame affair for both sides.
But that didn’t work out and United are now two points behind third-placed Chelsea in the Premier League, with the team finally becoming the team Amorim wanted.
After last season’s Europa League final, both Amorim and then-Tottenham manager Postecoglou were in jeopardy, with their clubs languishing in 15th and 17th place respectively in the Premier League.
Postecoglou was given the job by Spurs despite taking home the silver medal, but Amorim was excused and has now spent a year in charge at United.
The Telegraph reported that Mr Amorim was amused by how he and Mr Postecoglou were perceived to be in the same situation during the struggle.
He is said to have “smiled secretly” at the idea that the pressures they faced were “in a sense comparable”.
Amorim was quoted as saying: “I understand the relationship between me and Ange. We have the same problems. But with all due respect, I am at a bigger club with more pressure.”

United and Tottenham are currently in a similar position, but it was Thomas Frank who put Spurs in a better position, with Amorim turning things around himself.
Both clubs have played 11 games in the Premier League this season, with both having 18 points with five wins, three draws and three losses.
Both sides have scored 19 goals in the league, with the north London club leading the way on goal difference, conceding eight fewer goals than United.
So far this season, only the bottom five teams in the league have conceded more goals than the Red Devils, while only the top three have scored more.
Brian Mbeumo was an outstanding player, winning the Premier League Player of the Month award as a new player for United in October, and the credit should go to the manager, as Amorim was desperate to sign him.
