Manchester United have been told by the club’s former scout that signing Patrick Dorg was a “misfire” and that they “gave up” on Real Madrid star Alvaro Carreras too soon.
After a shaky start to the season, Man United have won three and drawn two under manager Ruben Amorim and are currently unbeaten in five Premier League games.
This has moved them up to seventh in the Premier League table, but there are still concerns as the left wing-back continues to cause problems for Amorim.
Dorg, who signed Diogo Dalot from Serie A side Lecce in January last year in a deal that could reach €35 million, has not been impressed, particularly by Paul Parker’s recent comments about Dalot’s performances.
Former Man United youngster Carreras moved to Real Madrid in the summer after leaving the Red Devils to sign for Portuguese side Benfica in 2024.
And Man United have been criticized for allowing Carreras to leave from former Polish scout Piotr Sadowski, who also left Old Trafford in 2024.

“Initially, his career path was very good. He was loaned to Preston, was well evaluated, and then… United gave up on him and sold him to Benfica for a small fee,” Sadowski told Carreras’ Przegrad Sportwy.
“Carreras is a real top-class player. He could very well be the best, if not the best, left-back in the world. He recently scored a beautiful goal against Valencia in La Liga. It was a big mistake for United to let him go.”
“So I think there’s something missing here and it’s United’s lack of courage to invest in young players.”

Regarding Dorg, Sadowski added: “No, I definitely agree. And he was brought in for 30 million euros. To be honest, having recently been at Blackburn Rovers and operating with a much lower transfer budget, I would have had no problem finding some Dortmund-level players for Manchester United, but 30 million euros is not going to do it, and the maximum was four.”
“Manchester United have been in crisis for the last few years and are desperate to get back to the top, so they are cautious about signing young players. Manager Ruben Amorim was supposed to do this, but the results have been poor, so he prefers to buy players who can play immediately.”
“Whether we have players to choose from in the backroom is another question. In my opinion, the only player who could break into United’s first team at the moment after returning from his loan spell is Harry Amass (he plays for Sheffield Wednesday). The club’s biggest deficit at the moment is in transfer players.”
