Manchester United are reportedly “on the fence” about signing a new striker in January after Benjamin Sesco picked up an injury before the international break.
One of Man United’s priorities in the summer was to sign a new striker, as Rasmus Hjølund and Joshua Zirkzee only scored seven goals in the Premier League last season.
The Red Devils were rumored to have a number of potential targets, including Victor Gokeres and Liam Delap, before signing Sesco for around £74m.
Sesco was involved in three goals in United’s 11 Premier League appearances, but was arguably the least impressive of the club’s four summer highlights.
The Slovenian international has been eased by coach Ruben Amorim and has struggled for match fitness, but Gary Neville and other pundits have criticized him prematurely.

Man United and Sesco suffered a blow before the international break with their striker injuring his knee during the draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
The extent of the injury has not yet been confirmed, but it is reported that he could be out for several weeks.
It has therefore been suggested that the Red Devils could be in the market for another new striker in January, but a report by journalist Dean Jones to our colleagues at Team Talk claims that the Red Devils are “on the fence” about signing a forward in the winter.
This is because, although they will intensify their efforts to sign a new striker if Zirksee leaves, they do not want to “block Sesco’s path to the Premier League’s top nine.”

The report adds:
“While the Red Devils may be open to the idea, those involved have indicated they would like to avoid competing directly with Sesco as it could have a negative impact on Sesco’s progress and damage his confidence.”
“Man United will continue to work hard to ensure his transfer is a success story.”
Like Zirksee, Casemiro is in the final year of his contract and could leave Man United in 2026.
Man United have the option to extend his contract until 2027 on the same terms, and although he is in great form, he is unlikely to do so given his wages of over £300,000-a-week.
As such, the Caught Offside report claims Casemiro’s “future depends on his wage demands”.
The report claims:
Amorim reiterated internally that Casemiro is “crucial” to maintaining his structure, especially in high-pressure games where his tactical intelligence shines through.
But the final decision may be out of Amorim’s hands. Casemiro’s contract expires at the end of the season and United have the option to extend it for a further year, but the board are hesitant. ”
