TikTok is rolling out new digital wellbeing features, including an affirmation journal and background sound generator, aimed at improving users’ mental health. The social network also announced that it will also give users badges to manage their use of TikTok.
The company is redesigning its Screen Time management page and adding new features to it. These include an affirmation journal with over 120 positive prompts that allows users to set intentions for the day, a sound generator that can play calming sounds like rain or ocean waves, and a breathing exercise module. The page will also feature content from creators who talk about screen time limits, using parental tools, customizing your feed, and more, the company said.
TikTok is also debuting new badges that reward people, especially teenagers, for using the platform within limits. The company said it researched academic literature on digital wellbeing and found that overly restrictive tools can have a negative impact on teens.

To earn these badges, users must complete various missions. Users can complete sleep time missions by avoiding using the platform at night. You can also earn badges using new meditation tools. TikTok also sets daily time limits and awards badges to people who use the app within those limits. There are other badges that allow you to view your weekly screen time report and invite others to complete these missions.
The company said that during early testing, it observed that more people accessed the new wellbeing screen compared to the previous version’s Screen Time menu, and affirmation journals were the most popular tool.
TikTok said it will display links to these tools when someone uses the app at night or when they reach their daily screen time limit.
The company released new parental control tools in July that allow parents to block certain accounts and receive notifications when their teens upload public videos or stories. In the past month, technology companies like Meta, YouTube, OpenAI, and Discord have added new safety tools aimed at making teens safer.
