It’s time for us – or time will be Gardener To reap what we own.
Although it’s pretty obvious when some edibles, like tomatoes, are ripe for picking (even red, yellow, or orange), it’s not All crops.
Signs of the deliciousness of popular crops
zucchiniFor example, the color does not change. Growing 15-inch-long squash might be appealing, but that’s probably going to be difficult. Choose when individual fruits are 6-8 inches long (15-20 cm) for optimal softness.
All types of green beans should be harvested when they are as thick as pencils. Once the plants start producing, check twice a day or two to remove ready beans. The more you choose, the more plants you will have.
Green pepper Can be harvested Any size is considered to be completely mature when it turns red. As a bonus, red chili peppers are sweet and contain more nutrients.
There is no such thing as an immature cucumber. Even the smallest ones are crispy and juicy. The danger here can result in an unpleasant taste and texture, as it allows them to stay in the grapes for a long time. Cucumbers are considered mature when their rough skin becomes smooth.
You’ll know sweet corn As soon as the silk at the top of the ear turns brown, it’s ready. If you are not sure yet, peel off a small portion of the shell and push the nail into the kernel. When it releases milky liquid, it is ripe.
Melons actually harvest themselves when the time is right. A light pull releases melons from its stems. If you need strength, you’re not ready.
Honeydew melons are ripe when the bottom starts to soften, and watermelons ripen when the bottom changes to a creamy white colour.
Time to excavate root crops
Deciding when to excavate root crops can be a little more challenging as they cannot be visually evaluated without interfering with them. However, there are some signs to note.
Garlic bulbs can be found to be mature when all but five leaves at the top of the plant become completely yellow or brown.
The onion is ready to flop over and turn brown.
To assess beets, select one plant and expose the entire top of the root by pushing the soil at its base aside. Harvest between 1.5-3 inches (3.8-5 cm) wide, depending on the variety. If it’s too small, cover it, cover the water and try again in a week. However, avoid making the beat too big. Otherwise, you will lose your sweetness and become difficult.
Standard potatoes When the leaves return, they will mature completely. But if it’s the so-called “new” potato you’re chasing, dig a light-skinned baby two to three weeks after the plant blooms. Early, large amounts of potato types are ready earlier than standard, so check the tags for various details. (Note: Due to delicate skin, new potatoes do not store up quickly and should be consumed immediately.)
Carrots are ready when they protrude from the underground, but can be left in the soil even in winter until needed.
