Liverpool could reportedly face relegation from the Premier League if their summer signings of big names continue to fall through.
The Reds started last season with five wins from five Premier League games after winning the title in their first season under manager Arne Slott.
However, Liverpool have now lost five of their last six games in all competitions, including four in a row in the Premier League, and have fallen to sixth place ahead of Sunday’s match.
There are also reports that if Slott does not quickly improve his performance and results, he could come under pressure from the board, which may move to reappoint Jurgen Klopp.
Former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Tony Cascarino finds it hard to believe Liverpool’s adversity so far this season, which saw them lose 3-2 to Brentford on Saturday.
“I was just shocked by Liverpool, they were again exactly what I’ve been talking about all season,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“The performance was a repeat of everything that I thought wasn’t good. The goals were back in line and we conceded another two goals plus conceded. That’s not a fair reflection of the game, by the way, they won 3-2. Brentford could have won comfortably 4-1.”
“Liverpool are easily beaten by basic corners, free-kicks and throw-ins, and there are a lot of things that go wrong when they have the ball. That’s OK.”
“Dominik Szoboszlai yesterday was the only guy on the field who looked like he was racing.
“The guy (Arne Slott) is just spinning the plates and when you understand that scenario, you get a lot of transfers coming through the door and you only know the impact when they’re on the pitch, but there are also scenarios that happen in football clubs, and I’ve been there myself, so the transfers that happen there are entrenched in the camp, in the dressing room, on the training ground, in the group.”
“When you make a lot of transfers, most of the players have to work. Liverpool went to a team last year that was very stable with a lot of work and nothing happening, but everything is falling apart. It feels like you’re spinning plates in every position.”

Hearing Andy Robertson’s comments that Liverpool lacked structure and style in the defeat to Brentford, Cascarino added: “It’s an indictment. If they won more duels, that would tell. They wanted more of it. Simple and basic. Liverpool are an indictment. If they win more duels, it will tell.”
“Look at a transfer in the summer. Milos Kerkes will go, but how did he do? It was pretty bad. He’ll go through Hugo Ekitike, but he’s probably the best player that’s come in.”
“Then, of course, Alexander Isak was injured and didn’t look very fit. So it hasn’t worked out yet. Hopefully it will work out for him. So we’re looking at Florian Wirtz, but it hasn’t worked out for him and he’s been struggling.”
“They’ve had four major transfers and one of them would have gone pretty well, Ekitike. Well, it wouldn’t work out as a team. That’s why they’re struggling.”
“Terry Venables always famously said that in a football club you get five players, but if those five don’t perform you get relegated.
“If four things don’t work, we struggle and fight relegation. And then we can keep going. If all four or five work, we qualify for the Champions League. Or if all five work, we have a chance to win the title.”
“Liverpool are stuck in that doom loop at the moment, that’s what I think.
“Everyone was talking about Manchester United last year. It would take them 10 years to get back to Liverpool’s place or challenge for the title. And I think it took them a month to catch up with Liverpool.”
“What we have seen in the last few weeks is that Man United look like a better team than Liverpool.

“We just saw last week with all the sticks that Amorim got and what happened, Man United went to Anfield and had a style and a certain way of playing and ended up scoring some goals against Liverpool and winning the game.
“And they backed it up with another performance.
“But they backed it up when they beat Sunderland, because Man United played very well against Sunderland. Sunderland did well as well. So I’m concerned about where the solution lies for Liverpool.”
“At the beginning of the season, after five games, we said we were in the wrong position. They’re not that good, Liverpool.”
“They’ve gone against the grain with all their previous transfers. But does that mean they can turn it around? Well, yes, they can. But now the manager has to use his powers to the hilt and convince the players what is needed.”
“And the idea of playing and playing like this spinning plate. And yes, they had injuries, but they have Champions League football. I get it all.”
“But at the moment I see a really poor Liverpool team, even compared to last year’s team.”
