Jamie Carragher felt it was “right” that Tottenham were booed during a “bad” moment during the match, and described Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea as “absolutely awful”.
Spurs entered the weekend with a three-point lead over London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League. They won 5 out of 9 games and finished 3rd in the league with 17 points.
However, the Blues are now level on 17 points after beating Tottenham, with Enzo Maresca’s side in fourth place with only slightly worse goal difference.
Chelsea had 15 shots on goal and nine on target, while Spurs had three and one on target. During the match, the commentary team stated that the Blues could have scored more, and felt that goalscorer João Pedro could have easily completed a hat-trick in the first half.
Liverpool legend Carragher attacked Spurs on commentary late in the game, when Spurs won a free-kick in their own half and with all but two outfielders in Chelsea’s half, Guglielmo Vicario played the ball to one of them, Jed Spence, who had to flick it back but had no chance of getting the ball upfield.
Carragher said: “Tottenham, you were absolutely terrible today. Listening to the booing in the stadium, it’s understandable, but how bad could it be?”
“Tottenham couldn’t complain. This game should be 4-0.”

After the game, former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp echoed similar sentiments about his team’s poor performance.
He said: “It’s very simple. If it had been a boxing match they would have stopped it. That was one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Tottenham.”
“They never put the gloves on this Chelsea team. They had no idea how to play. They made it so easy.”
Admittedly, from Spurs’ point of view, this statistic isn’t a very good call. The only major statistic in which they beat Chelsea was the number of corner kicks they won, six compared to the Blues’ five.
Our opponents improved their shots, shots on target, possession, passes, and passing accuracy, and were shown fewer yellow cards.
Tottenham’s form at home will be a concern considering they only won four times at home in the Premier League last year.
