Less than a month after being fired by Fenerbafe, Jose Mourinho is approaching a return to management.
Mourinho was fired by the Turkish Giants on August 29 after losing to Benfica in the Champions League qualifiers.
And now, the 62-year-old is taking part in “Advanced Talks” to join the club that knocked out Fenerbahce.
Certainly, Benfica fired head coach Bruno Reige on Wednesday morning, and Mourinho is open to replace the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss.
Romano writes about X: “Blake: Benfica is in high-level consultations with Jose Mourinho after Bruno Reiji was fired overnight! I understand that Mourinho has opened the door to Benfica’s move as he wants to return to coaching soon.

Reiji was rejected after Benfika was defeated by Karabag on the Azerbaijani side in Matchday 1 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
It was Karabag’s first Champions League victory (nonqualified) since he came from 2-0 to win 3-2 at Estadio da Ruz.
Club president Louis Costa wants to introduce a new head coach before Saturday’s match against La Liga Portugal, but refuses to be drawn to speculation that Mourinho is his preferred option.
“The Benfica coach profile must be the winner profile,” Costa said.
“The coaches representing a club of this size must be capable of bringing this team to the level where we demand and deliver the title we want.
“There’s no point in talking about the name here. No coaches have been appointed, and no future coaches representing Benfica are mentioned.”
Mourinho’s management team’s first job was at Benfica, replacing Jupp Heynckes in September 2000. He managed nine league games before resigning after the club refused to offer him a new contract.
Between 2002 and 2015, after unbelievable success with FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea, Mourinho won the trophies at Manchester United and Rome.
He also managed Tottenham Hotspur from November 2019 to April 2021, losing surprisingly much work before the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
After two and a half years in charge of Rome, Mourinho joined Turkish Super Rigside Fennelvath, taking charge of one full season after being fired in two league games and two Champions League qualifying rounds on 26/2025.
Mourinho ironically approaches joining a club that sacrificed his job, returning to the Champions League for the first time since 2019/20, when Tottenham reached the final 16.
The easiest match in Benfica’s league phase ends with a loss, and Mourinho comes in with incredibly tested equipment if he is appointed.
Their next fixture opposes other than their departure to Chelsea, where Mourinho won seven major trophies with two spells.
Benfica will return to England three weeks later, where he will face Newcastle United and will be in a home match against Italian champion Napoli and another Bayer Leverkusen from Real Madrid, former club of Mourinho.
The Portuguese giants also face Ajax and Juventus away from home.
