Akbar Gbajabiamila will not be returning to after one season, Deadline has learned.
The former football player and talk show host had been missing from the NFL Network morning sports show, with his last appearance being on February 14.
On his last show, the co-hosts, which included Jamie Erdahl, Kyle Brandt, and Peter Schrager, talked about their vacation plans as the NFL season ended and the show went dark for a week.
“This was my first season, and it was such a cool experience to be able to go through this entire process and now to get to this point and get the week off — I’m going to Florida too with [Schrager],” Gbajabiamila said in February. “But I’m only going to be there for a couple of days, and I’m going to hop over to the Bahamas. But, it’s been real.”
When the show returned on February 24, Gbajabiamila’s name still appeared in the title sequence, but a rotation of guest co-hosts had filled his seat.
Deadline understands that GMFB is making some talent adjustments during this NFL off-season, and the 2025-26 season roster will be confirmed later this summer.
Peter Schrager exited GMFB on March 31 after nine years on the show. After Schrager’s exit, the opening title stopped displaying the names of the co-hosts.

Gbajabiamila joined Good Morning Football in the fall of 2024 when the show moved its main studio from New York to Los Angeles. The sports commentator joined Erdahl in the studio, while Schrager and Brandt stayed in the NYC studio broadcasting remotely. Gbajabiamila paired his GMFB hosting duties with co-hosting The Talk on CBS, which ended its run in December 2024. The TV personality is also the co-host of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior.
Deadline has reached out to Gbajabiamila’s representatives for comment.
