EXCLUSIVE: Al Calderon has been busy at work shooting new episodes of Days of Our Lives as the character Javi Hernandez, which will air in May of next year. However, on the heels of his series regular casting in Season 2 of NBC’s Brilliant Minds, the role of Javi will be recast, sources tell Deadline.
“We do not comment on the contract status of our actors, but fans should not worry, Javi is alive and well in Salem,” representatives for Days of Our Lives shared in a statement.
Episodes starring the new actor on DOOL are expected to air in April, we understand.
Calderon joined the long-running NBC/Peacock sudser last February as Javi, a passionate and professional man who is larger than life at times, then sensitive at others. He’s the man you’d want to date or befriend, but not one you should aim to have as an enemy.
The bilingual actor, singer and dancer is pivoting to prime time TV in a major way. Working closely with Zachary Quinto, Calderon’s character Nurse Scotty Silva, runs the hospital and looks good doing it. With charisma to spare, he’s widely regarded as the Mayor of Bronx General. His warm, funny and outgoing charm may or may not be the reason why he knows everything about everyone at work.
Inspired by the life and work of author and physician Oliver Sacks, Brilliant Minds follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto), a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier – the human mind – while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
In addition to Quinto, Brilliant Minds also stars Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Teddy Sears and Donna Murphy. Bellamy Young recently joined as a recurring guest star. Production on Season 2 of the medical drama is currently underway in Toronto.
