Amazon One Medical, the primary care provider the company acquired in 2022, will launch a pay-per-visit virtual health care service for children ages 2 to 11, the company announced Thursday. Message-based visits start at $29 and video visits cost $49.
This medical service doesn’t require insurance or a One Medical membership and can help treat problems like honey, lice, and more than 10 types of skin-related problems, including eczema, insect bites, contact dermatitis, and fungal rashes. This service also includes EpiPen and asthma medication updates.
Amazon began offering pay-per-visit virtual healthcare services for adults in 2024.
“This service is not intended to replace a family’s relationship with their child’s primary care pediatrician, but rather to serve as a convenient ‘in-between’ option for parents with time-sensitive concerns who do not already have on-demand access through their One Medical membership,” Natasha Bhuyan, M.D., family physician and national medical director for Amazon One Medical, said in a press release.
The move comes as companies like Walgreens, CVS and Walmart are cutting back on retail health services.
Last week, Amazon introduced prescription vending machines at its One Medical Clinics, starting in Los Angeles. The kiosk stocks a variety of commonly prescribed medications, including antibiotics, inhalers, and blood pressure medications.
These new kiosks could disrupt the already struggling brick-and-mortar pharmacy business. For example, Rite Aid recently closed all of its remaining stores. CVS has closed more than 1,000 stores since 2021. And Walgreens has closed 500 stores in the past year.

The launch of a new pay-per-visit service for children marks Amazon’s latest move to expand its presence in healthcare. In 2018, Amazon acquired online pharmacy PillPack for $750 million and launched Amazon Pharmacy in 2020. Two years later, it acquired One Medical for $3.9 billion.
