EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video has bought a true crime doc about one of the most notorious manhunts in British history.
The Amazon streamer, which is on something of a British true crime spending spree at present, has picked up Rampage: The Raoul Moat Manhunt [working title] along with two other shows. All three will drop soon on the platform. Firecrest struck the distribution deal directly with Amazon.
From director Aodh Breathnach, Rampage follows the week-long manhunt after Moat went on a murderous two-day shooting spree across the North East of England. He killed one person and wounded two others with a sawn-off shotgun. Eventually, after a six-hour standoff with police, Moat died by suicide having shot himself. A number of shows have already been made about the killer, including Manhunt: The Raoul Moat Story and a dramatization titled The Hunt for Raoul Moat, both for ITV.
Amazon has also picked up The Man Who Got Away With Murder [working title] and Fantasist, Fraudster, Fugitive: Unmasking Nicholas Rossi [working title]. The former tells the story of an astonishing police investigation and landmark legal change that finally brought killer Gary Allen to justice. The latter is about the man who woke up in a coma in a Scottish hospital surrounded by detectives, who believed he was one of America’s most wanted fugitives.
The trio of shows are the sixth documentaries Prime Video has acquired from Scottish producer Firecrest Films this year. Last month, we revealed the streamer had bought Firecrest shows on Shannon Matthews, the Orkney assassin and a Tinder predator.
Firecrest Creative Director Iain Scollay said: “We’re thrilled to be deepening our collaboration with Prime Video. It’s a real vote of confidence in Firecrest’s approach to premium factual storytelling, and we’re proud to continue bringing ambitious, distinctive documentaries to international audiences from our base in Scotland.”
