Manchester United were told to plunder Reuben Amorim and bring Gareth Southgate by Teddy Shellingham, whom the former England boss believes “can rebuild the entire place.”
Southgate has not won another job since leaving England Post in July 2024, but Sheringham is not the first job linked the former Middlesbrough boss with United Jig.
The 55-year-old was said to be high on Jim Ratcliffe’s nominee list in March 2025 when minority owners were considering looting Eric Ten Hag. With the FA Cup victory, Ten Hag gave him a stay of the run, but when they reached the appointment of his replacement in November, they chose Ruben Amorim.
However, as Portuguese people are under pressure, many experts like Sheringham are only telling previous clubs how to solve the problem.
The former striker’s solution is to plunder Amorim and bring in Southgate, suggesting he could do a way to turn England around with United.
“If you look at some of the well-known managers who have been at Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson left, many of them came in and tried to move the club forward in their own way,” he told Coin Poker.
“Some United fans know that they reserved Gareth Southgate because of his style of play, but seeing what he accomplished in the UK, he might be someone who will stabilize the Old Trafford ship.
“I think Manchester United is the pinnacle of British football and Southgate will understand the enormous nature of the task, which has been England’s manager for eight years.

“He understands the pressures that come with the task, and he’ll be in a better place than he takes on the mantle of uniting where they belong. He doesn’t want to see Reuben Amorim or other managers lose his job, but you can do much worse than rebuilding Gareth across the place.”
Southgate previously said he was “not in a hurry” to return to his last club management in 2009.
“Sometimes, when you play a big role, you don’t understand your weight until it’s gone,” Southgate said at the European Club Association general meeting in October. “It’s one of those jobs where everyone has an opinion.
“I’m not in a hurry because I enjoy my life. I’ve been completely committed to the National Federation for 11 years. I won’t coach the next year. I’m sure that.
Southgate’s United Sack Amorim is considered to be one of the leading candidates along with Oliver Glasner, Michael Carrick and Nuno Espirito Santo.
