Man Utd is buying another Rasmus Hojlund this summer, as Benjamin Sesco “needs to adapt” to the Premier League, according to former Red Devils assistant manager Rene Meulensteen.
The Red Devils won the race Wednesday when Athletic David Ornstein signed Sesco from RB Leipzig, where Mann UTD revealed he was “closing” on a deal to sign the Slovenians after defeating Newcastle.
Transfer Expert’s Fabrizio Romano revealed that Man Utd has secured “full agreement” in personal terms after Sesko revealed he would join Red Devils more than Newcastle.
However, Meulensteen thinks he’s seen the play at Hojlund, which has had disappointingly great potential over two seasons since signing from Atalanta for £72 million.
Meulensteen told Poker Strategy: “Manchester United’s bid for Benjamin Sesko is basically what we did with Rasmus Hojlund. If you score in the first three or four games and run, it could be the club’s answer, but it may not happen.
“If you look at Hojlund, he joined Atalanta, played well with the rest of the team, then joined United. The same can be said about Sesko. The Bundesliga is a completely different league from the Premier League.

Meulensteen added: “I’m looking at people like Ollie Watkins available. He’s a hardworking player with similar features as Sesko, except that he already has valuable Premier League experience.
“Why don’t the club bring Watkins in and let the coach work closely with Hodglund to develop him? That’s a waste of investment on him. They pay him nearly £80 million and are at risk of selling him for less than half of that unless he develops.”
Earlier this year, Man UTD co-owner Jim Ratcliffe ir claimed that the Red Devils were “bust at Christmas” without the cost measures he introduced.
However, the Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo trade will cost a total of £127.5 million, while the package on Sesko’s table is reportedly worth around £74 million.

And football finance expert Stefan Borson believes that Ratcliffe painted a “a little exaggerated picture” earlier this year.
Bourson told Football Insider: “Manchester United are in the same position as City, Chelsea and many clubs in that they want to sell some of the deadly wood.
“We know about Sancho, Antony, they don’t sell Rashford, but he rented it out.
“They don’t bring in the cash they’d ever expected. It’s a challenge, but they seem keen to continue spending.
“The cash and financial issues that Ratcliffe spoke about in February seem to have dissipated despite an overall sequence of opposition to them from a budgeting standpoint.
“It seems everything has gotten worse since he interviewed various people, so I don’t know why they feel more comfortable spending, or maybe there’s a slightly exaggerated picture drawn in February.”
