Apple plans to increase its commitment to US manufacturing, according to White House officials, quoted by Reuters and reported first.
Tech Giant is scheduled to announce another $100 billion in spending on Wednesday. Previously, it boosted the production of its products in the US after pledging to invest $500 billion over the next four years. The $500 billion commitment includes opening a new, sophisticated manufacturing facility in Houston, servers supporting Apple Intelligence, production of Apple TV+ Productions in 20 US states, and servers working with US suppliers.
The news is threatening tariffs unless President Trump moves more manufacturing from Asia to the US, as he threatens iPhone makers with tariffs.
Apple, which manufactures devices primarily in India, China and Vietnam, is already affected by tariffs. The company is expected to cover $800 million in tariff-related expenses in June and spend $1.1 billion in the next quarter, CEO Tim Cook said in a revenue call last month.
