EXCLUSIVE: Celia Imrie (The Thursday Murder Club), Gbemisola Ikumelo (The Paper) and Colin Morgan (Belfast) have joined the Season 5 cast of Trying, one of Apple TV+’s longest-running shows.
Danielle Vitalis (I May Destroy You) and Leah Brotherhead (Bridgerton) have also boarded Season 5. Launch date is yet to be revealed.
Andy Wolton’s comedy stars Rafe Spall and Esther Smith as Jason and Nikki, a couple who adopt a child, only to face a whole list of challenges and surprises. Imrie, who can soon be seen in Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club adaptation, plays Harriet, a stubborn upper-class hoarder who Jason encounters while training for a new job. Ikumelo, who is starring in The Office spin-off The Paper, is Chrissy, a ground-down-by-the-job social worker who mentors Jason, and Merlin lead Morgan is Kerry, Nikki’s handsome co-worker who exudes confidence and a laid-back charm.
Having jumped forward six years, Season 4 ended with Princess and Tyler’s biological mother Kat (Charlotte Riley) turning up at their doorstep. The show also stars Darren Boyd as Scott, Sian Brooke as Karen, Scarlett Rayner as Princess and Cooper Turner as Tyler.
Along with the likes of Slow Horses, Trying, which is made by BBC Studios, is one of Apple TV+’s longest-running shows. Spall can currently be seen in a different Apple show, Dennis Lehane’s Smoke, opposite Taron Egerton.
Trying is created, written and executive produced by Wolton, and executive produced by BAFTA Award nominees Josh Cole and Sam Pinell alongside Chris Sussman.
Imrie is represented by The Curtis Brown Group and Magnolia Entertainment, Ikumelo is represented by Curtis Brown Group and UTA, Morgan is repped by United Agents and UTA, Vitalis is repped by B-Side Management and Brotherhead is repped by The Artists Partnership.
