Bukayo Saka appears to be close to signing a new contract, which is the best news Arsenal supporters could hope for.
According to French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Saka has “agreed in principle” to extend his contract until 2030, meaning he will remain at Arsenal until the age of 29.
Bukayo Saka: Key career statistics
Second youngest player in Arsenal’s history to reach 50 appearances; England Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023; Arsenal Player of the Season in 2020/21 and 2021/22; Player of the Match in 12 of 38 England appearances;
The reliable Hawkins wrote in the X on Wednesday night: “Bukayo Saka has agreed in principle to extend his contract with Arsenal until 2030. The 24-year-old winger has entered the final two years of his previous contract.” After William Saliba, the Gunners will secure Bukayo Saka.
Saka’s current contract expires in 2027, creating some uncertainty over his long-term future in north London, but there is no sense of any possibility of him leaving.
Saka has been Arsenal’s driving force since breaking into the first team as a teenager. He carried the club through its toughest period under Arsene Wenger and showed leadership and consistency far beyond his years.
Unfortunately for both Saka and Arsenal, these performances have yet to lead to silver medals. Still, they were instrumental in the club’s transformation under Mikel Arteta, leading to a third successive second-place finish in the Premier League, although they are a far cry from their performance when Arteta started 2019.

If Saka is in his prime, Arsenal’s title win is inevitable.
But silverware always comes…
Signing new long-term deals for William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and now Saka has ended Arsenal’s 20-year wait for a Premier League title and laid the foundations for them to become a dynasty.
Considering how good Saka was from the ages of 18 to 24, it’s exciting to see what he can produce between now and his 29th birthday in 2030.
Gabriel is under contract until the age of 31, Saliba until the age of 30, Martin Zvimendi from 26 to 31, Noni Madukes from 23 to 28, Victor Gokeres from 27 to 32, Riccardo Calafiori from 22 to 27, and Ebere Eze from 27 to 31. Declan Rice, 26, is under contract until 2028. Club captain Martin Odegaard will also be given a further two-and-a-half years, while he will have the option of a further year.
With this group in place, and Saka perhaps the most important of them, it feels like a matter of when, rather than if, Arsenal will win a major trophy.
That’s Bukayo Saka in the Champions League.

The signing of Saka and Saliba is a big early win for Andrea Berta
Persuading Saka and Saliba to sign new contracts was the biggest success of Andrea Berta’s early reign as sporting director.
Saka was always expected to stay, but Saliba was in a much more delicate situation. Berta was successful in convincing Arsenal that he was the best place for his long-term future, despite the club not winning anything at the club and attracting strong interest from Real Madrid. Saliba could have secured a huge contract and left on a free transfer in 2027, but Arsenal retained him.
Berta’s first summer spell also had many positives, including beating Spurs to sign Eze, finally signing elite centre-forward Gokeres and signing Cristian Mosquera for just £13m.
Early signs are very encouraging.
