As Long As He’s Interested

-

Ryan Coogler wants to work with Denzel Washington in Black Panther 3 and hopes to work out a deal.

In a new interview, Coogler addressed rumors that Washington was in talks to star in the third installment of the Marvel movie.

“I’m dying to work with Denzel and I’m hoping we can make that happen. I got every intention of working with him in that movie and as long as he’s interested — it’s going to happen,” Coogler told Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson on the Nightcap podcast.

After Sharpe asked the filmmaker how long we had to wait for Black Panther 3, Coogler said, “Not long.”

Coogler praised Washington, calling him a “living legend and a great mentor,” adding, “He’s all about looking out for us.”

While promoting the Gladiator sequel in November 2024, Washington let it slip that Coogler was writing an unspecified role for him in the next Black Panther sequel.

In the same interview, Washington talked about what he looks for in the projects he takes on, saying on Australia’s Today Show, “At this point in my career, I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make, probably not that many. I want to do things that I haven’t done. I played Othello at 22, I’m now going to play it at 70. After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film.”
