Aston Villa is reportedly “bitter” after winning the race for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, despite Manchester United offering more money for the 23-year-old.
Unai Emery’s side was targeting Lammen on the deadline amid uncertainty surrounding the future of first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Man United had registered interest in signing the Belgian shotstopper earlier last month, but did not agree to the deal until the final hour of the summer transfer period.
It was possible that Martinez would replace him with Lammens, but the former stayed at Villa Park despite wanting to go back in May.
He leaves an egg on his face, but the Red Devils have improved goalkeeper depth with the addition of Runmen.

Andre Onana was the club’s first choice since its start in 2023/24, but Amorim preferred Altay Bayindir at the start of the season and continued to trust Turkey’s international after Miss led to the only goal in the match at the Premier League opener against Arsenal.
Bay Indeal faced Burnley at Fulham and on Saturday as United got their first victory of the season.
It is unclear who Amorim’s long-term No. 1 will be, but there is hope that Lammens will have to work in shirts.
But he may not have to work that hard. Amorim clearly doesn’t rate Onana, and Bayindir is more likely to worry and error.
United’s first game after an international break is away to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Villa paints with Newcastle United and is looking for their first goal and seasonal victory after losing to Brentford and Crystal Palace.
It was a disastrous start to them until 26/2025, and their transfer business hasn’t given fans much excitement.
The goalkeeper’s deadline day blundered salt in the wounds for club supporters, and Lammens joined United at a rate below what the villains offered Antwerp.
It claims that Runmen joined United with a £182 million and £3.5 million add-on, pushing “dreamy moves” to Old Trafford, which Martinez and Villa felt “bitter” after bidding “higher”;
It all comes down to “pull power.” This gives the Red Devils a “significant advantage in the Transfer Window.”
Other examples cited are Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
After joining the Red Devils, Runmen said: “My team at Antwerp had several players from England and when we talked about Manchester United, we could see firsthand the changes in our faces.
