Former Tottenham player David Bentley said a move to the club would be “perfect” for the forgotten Englishman for a number of reasons, including the possibility of a World Cup appearance.
Spurs have a number of striker options, but they haven’t had a player who has been in the competition this season. Top-scoring striker Richarlison has scored four goals, Matthijs Tell has scored two, while Randall Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke have been plagued by injuries and are yet to find their form.
As a result, Tottenham have been linked with several talented strikers recently, with most of the reports surrounding Ivan Toney’s possible return to the Premier League.
The former Brentford striker had a fantastic spell with the Bees under current Spurs manager Thomas Frank, scoring 72 goals and providing 27 assists in 141 games.
Former Tottenham man Bentley feels moving to north London to work with his old boss is the right move for Tony.
He told Sky Sports: “He would want to join Tottenham.
“For him, going to the stadium with Thomas Frank (and) playing is the perfect destination for him. If he wants to be in the England team, it’s not about the money, it’s about playing to get into the World Cup squad.”
“Tottenham is the perfect environment. Tottenham could do the same with him in England. If something happens to[Harry]Kane, we will struggle a bit for a centre-forward.”
In fact, there appears to be room for another striker in the England squad, with Kane the only unstoppable number nine selected in the latest squad, with widemen Marcus Rashford and Jarrod Bowen also able to play there.
Normally Ollie Watkins would have taken part, but he has withdrawn due to poor form in recent months.

Toney has scored 11 goals for Saudi Arabia so far in the 2025/26 season, so it might not be difficult for him to get up to speed, but there are no guarantees as it is obviously a different level to the Premier League.
However, after this week’s international break, he may have to play seriously to earn a call-up to the World Cup, with only one more game left before the tournament (in March).
Manager Thomas Tuchel will want to see Toney in an England shirt before risking using him solely on the basis of his club’s results. That means you have just a few months to file your case before your next representative leave.
