After more than a decade, could Saturday Night Live be primed for a new set of ‘Weekend Update‘ hosts?
Cast member Bowen Yang and his Las Culturistas podcast co-host Matt Rogers recently threw their hats in the ring to replace Michael Che and Colin Jost as the parody news segment’s anchors as the NBC sketch comedy show prepares to return for Season 51 on Oct. 4.
“Oh God, trauma!” Rogers prefaced a question for Yang on Hot Ones Versus. “We both auditioned for SNL, but only you were asked to join. If you could have me replace any current SNL cast, who would it be?”
Instead of eating a wing, Yang replied, “If I could have you replace any current cast member … I’m gonna give Che and Colin the chop so that you and I can do ‘Update’ together.”
“I love that, I think we’d be great at ‘Update.’ We’d give a new fresh take,” added Rogers. “Hey Colin, hey Che, ya burnt.”

Che and Jost have headed up ‘Weekend Update’ since Season 40 in 2014, taking over for Seth Meyers and Cecily Strong. As of the Season 50 finale in May, no cast departures have been announced.
Yang, who joined the SNL writing staff with Season 44 and the on-air cast the next season, has hosted Las Culturistas with Rogers since 2016, with the first televised edition of the pop culture podcast’s Culture Awards set to air on Bravo on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 9pm ET, available the next day on Peacock.
