Brenda Song Says Fiancé Macaulay Culkin “Ruined” ‘Home Alone’ For Her

-

Brenda Song kept a tradition of watching Home Alone during the holidays, but watching it with her fiancé Macaulay Culkin might have “ruined” her experience.

While appearing on The Jennifer Hudson ShowThe Suite Life of Zack & Cody alum recalled that when she started dating Culkin, she suggested watching the holiday movie classic to continue the annual tradition.

“Christmastime came around — and it’s a tradition, I’ve always watched Home Alone every Christmas,” Song said. “He hadn’t seen the movie in almost a decade — he didn’t want to watch it — and I forced it. I was like, ‘We have to.’”

However, Song noted that as they started watching the film, Culkin “started telling me all the behind-the-scenes stories. And I was like, ‘Stop. Stop. You’re ruining it for me.’”

The Running Point star added, “The movie holds such a special place in obviously so many people’s hearts, it’s just hard for me, that’s all.”

Home Alone is a 1990 Christmas comedy film directed by Chris Columbus and written and produced by John Hughes. The film stars Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy accidentally left behind on their family Christmas vacation to Paris. Kevin encounters a pair of robbers, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, trying to invade his Chicago home.

Home Alone went on to become a classic and was the beginning of a franchise. A sequelHome Alone 2: Lost in New York, was released in 1992 and was another box office success. The franchise was rebooted for 1997’s Home Alone 3 with an all new cast, but with much less success. Home Alone 4 followed in 2002 as a TV movie for ABC. Cable network ABC Family made Home Alone: The Holiday Heist in 2012 and a sixth installment titled Home Sweet Home Alone was produced for Disney+ and released in 2021.
