Chase Sui Wonders has been cast in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot at Hulu, Deadline has confirmed.
Wonders will play Shirley, in what we hear is a one-off guest starring role in the pilot being directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao. Shirley is believed to be a vampire.
This will mark a reunion for Gellar and Wonders, who shared credits in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.
Wonders joining the Buffy reboot comes after starring in Apple TV+’s The Studio, which earned a whopping 23 Emmy nominations. Previously, she had starred in Bupkis (2023), City on Fire (2023), and the short-lived HBO Max series Genera+ion (2021).
In film, Wonders has been featured in A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), Out of the Blue (2022), Past Lives (2023), and Little Death (2024).
The pilot for the Buffy reboot will star Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the chosen one, following in the footsteps of Gellar’s Buffy Summers. Armstrong’s character is described in the casting materials as an introverted high school student.
Following news of Armstrong’s casting, Gellar said, “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
Rumors of Wonders joining the Buffy reboot were first reported by The Insneider.
