When Bobby Kennedy married Ethel Skakell on June 17, 1950, his son was well known throughout the country.
It was followed by 11 children: Kathleen, Joseph II, Robert Jr., David, Courtney, Michael, Kelly, Christopher, Maxwell, Douglas and Rory.
Ethel became pregnant with Rory on June 6, 1968 when Bobby was fatally shot.
David Kennedy died on April 25, 1984, at the age of 28 from a drug overdose. Michael Kennedy was killed on December 31, 1997, slammed into a tree while skiing, and threw football during a family trip to Aspen, Colorado.
Her husband passed away when her eldest son was 16, but Ethel Kennedy became a grandmother of 34. Two of her grandchildren have passed away: Saoa Hill, 22, daughter of Courtney and husband Paul Hill, daughter of accidental drug overdose and Maeve Kennedy McKey, daughter of Kathleen and husband David Townsend, in a 2020 Canoe accident.
