Hollywood laments the loss of a talented director.
Diego Borera, assistant director of Emily in Paris, passed away on August 22 while filming the fifth season of the Netflix show in Venice, Italy. He was 47 years old.
“We are extremely saddened to confirm the sudden death of a member of Emily in the production family in Paris,” a spokesperson for Best Television Studio said in a statement to E on August 23rd. news. “During these incredibly difficult times, our hearts are directed towards our individual families and loved ones.”
While preparing to film the final scene inside the historic Hotel Danieli in Venice, the local outlet reported that Borera had collapsed around 7pm local time. The medical staff on Set tried to revive the Borera at each of the stores, but he died at the scene.
A local doctor rushing to the scene confirmed the assistant director’s death according to La Republica, saying it was likely that he had died from a “sudden heart attack.”
“Our ambulance arrived on 18.42 (Thursday evening),” the Venice Health Department said according to the Independent. “Medic attempted to revive him, but it turned out that in the end all the efforts had not paid off. Around 19/30, he was declared dead.”
According to Il ussaggero, production of the final episode of the show’s fifth season was temporarily suspended following the incident.
