Disney+ will premiere its anime adaptation Twisted-Wonderland: The Animation on October 29.
The anime series follows a high school student named Yuken who is whisked away to a world of magic. He must steer clear of danger and work with his classmates to try and return home.
The adaptation is based on a popular Disney IP mobile game that first launched in Japan in 2020, created by Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan.
The game has been downloaded over 4.8M times in Japan, with manga and novel adaptations, alongside several consumer products.
The series is set in the enchanted world of Twisted Wonderland, where seven legendary figures, known as the “Great Seven,” have been immortalized. Based on seven iconic Disney Villains: the Queen of Hearts, the King of Beasts (Scar), the Sea Witch (Ursula), the Sorcerer of the Sands (Jafar), the Fairest Queen (Evil Queen), the King of the Underworld (Hades), and the Thorn Fairy (Maleficent), the acts of these individuals inspire the creation of seven magical dormitories at Night Raven College — an elite academy for budding mages.
Unaware of any of this, Yuken Enma, an ordinary high school student from Tokyo, suddenly finds himself transported to Night Raven College and immediately begins alienating its residents.
Unable to wield magic, unsure of the customs, and stunned by the new reality he finds himself in, Yuken starts searching for a way back home. Constantly finding himself tangled up in adventures with his troublemaking new classmates, Ace and Deuce, Yuken needs to find his way home before incurring the wrath of the Rose-Red Tyrant, Riddle Rosehearts.
Other recent anime series on Disney+ include Murai In Love, The Fable and Go! Go! Loser Ranger!, among others.
On the horizon, Disney+ will also soon launch an adaptation of “Cat’s Eye,” which follows three sisters who run a café by day and who work as cat burglars by night.
