Elsbeth is setting up the star power for its upcoming third season, starting with Amy Sedaris (At Home With Amy Sedaris), Andy Richter (Late Night with Conan O’Brien), and Lindsay Mendez (American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez), who will all guest star in the premiere episode.
Based on the character featured in The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) is the astute but unconventional consent decree attorney working with the NYPD to catch New York’s well-heeled murderers, utilizing her unique point of view.
Sedaris will play Laurel Hammond-Muntz, the headstrong and devoted head writer and executive producer of the popular late-night talk show Way Late.
Richter as Mickey Muntz, the hilarious but long-suffering sidekick to Scotty Bristol (Stephen Colbert), the host of Way Late. He’s also Laurel’s husband.
Mendez as Officer Grace Hackett, a hard-working officer and an aspiring stand-up comic when off the clock. When she teams up with Elsbeth for a case focused on the world of comedy, her knowledge of the business comes in handy.
Elsbeth is produced by CBS Studios and executive produced by Robert King, Michelle King, Jonathan Tolins, Liz Glotzer, Erica Shelton Kodish, Bryan Goluboff and Gail Barringer with Tolins serving as showrunner. Robert and Michelle King co-created the series.
Tony Award winner Mendez most recently starred in the hit Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along opposite Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff. The production, which was filmed for theatrical release, will hit theaters on December 5. On TV, Mendez starred in the FX anthology series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez for Ryan Murphy. She was previously a series regular on All Rise from CBS/OWN.
Richter is best known for his long-running role as Conan O’Brien’s announcer and sidekick throughout multiple late-night shows, including Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, and later Conan, as announcer, writer, general sidekick, and comedy sketch actor. His acting credits also include Arrested Development and Hulu’s Love, Victor for the small screen, and Scary Movie 2, Elf, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, Semi-Pro, and Marcel the Shell With Shoes On for the big screen.
Sedaris is a comedian, actress, and best-selling author. She was the creator, writer, and star of the Emmy-nominated show At Home with Amy Sedaris. She is a voice in the new animated Smurfs. Her recent work also includes the rebooted Frasier series for Paramount+ and ABC’s Doctor Odyssey. She also can be seen in Amy Schumer’s Hulu series Life and Beth, Disney’s The Mandalorian, and the films Theater Camp and Somebody That I Used to Know.
