SPOILER ALERT: This post lightly spoils Wednesday Season 2 Part 1.
Emma Myers’ Enid Sinclair and Joy Sunday’s Bianca Barclay are on somewhat different paths in Wednesday Season 2, but both actresses agree that Principal Dort’s (Steve Buscemi) behavior seems suspicious.
In a separate interview with Deadline, Buscemi described Dort, who replaces the late Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie) as head of Nevermore Academy in Season 2, as having a “nefarious reason” for most of his choices, including the decision to abolish The Nightshades, a Secret Society of which most of Wednesday and Enid’s friend group are members.
“It’s certainly one of the first instances where [Bianca] really start[s] to doubt what Principal Dort’s intentions are, especially because The Nightshades played such an integral role in protecting Nevermore,” Sunday told Deadline of that same decision. “So for him to pull it out from under us in tandem with what he’s asking [her] to do, really unbalances [her] trust in him.”
Enid, who finally wolfed out at the end of Season 1, was disappointed to learn that she was the only one who didn’t know about the clandestine group, which invited Wednesday to pledge, though she refused.
“I think Enid is a little bit upset. She finally feels like she could be a part of this because she’s wolfed out, found her pack, has this new confidence, and the second she can actually join, it’s abolished,” Myers said. “It feels like every time she’s almost there, something gets taken away from her. It’s a bit upsetting and frustrating for her.”
In the below interview, Myers details her “push and pull” tension with Wednesday over the arrival of a fangirl who wants to impress the savior of Nevermore, and Sunday unpacks her relationship with her mother as well as the one that she develops with Morticia. Sunday also teases what to look forward to in Part 2 after Bianca gets blackmailed.
DEADLINE: Emma, Enid has a doomed fate this season, but there seems to be a tension that grows between her and Wednesday. How did you balance that with their deep bond?
EMMA MYERS: I think Enid is feeling replaced because Agnes has stepped in and, of course, wants to impress Wednesday and is threatening Enid all the time. So Enid feels a bit insecure in their friendship and doesn’t know why Wednesday’s pushing her out. Of course, little does she know, [it’s] because of this premonition that Wednesday’s had. It’s definitely an interesting dynamic and journey to explore in this new season, because we haven’t seen them like this before.

DEADLINE: Wednesday doesn’t tell her about the vision, Enid feels she’s kind of evolved this season. I’m wondering how that further complicates their bond to show how they see past each other’s fronts?
MYERS: I think they both have a sort of unspoken understanding of one another. When Enid sees that Wednesday’s pushing her out, she doesn’t realize why, because she thinks they got past that last season. There’s this little push and pull that both of them have, and it’s very confusing for her.
DEADLINE: Joy, Bianca is juggling a lot this semester with Principal Dort and her mom. How did you approach fleshing out more of that backstory with her mom and also the relationship she’s forming with Morticia?
JOY SUNDAY: In Season 1, Bianca is shielded from having to confront anything that’s going on with her mom until it’s in her face. In Season two, she doesn’t have that luxury, and she’s forced to come to terms with the use of her power, which she already, doesn’t like to use for things that aren’t, for the best of everyone, and protecting her mom, who she’s never had an opportunity to have a good relationship with, just yet.
It was wonderful working with Gracy [Goldman], hand in hand, to really work out what the kinks of that relationship would be, especially because I didn’t want Bianca to feel stagnant throughout the season. I wanted her to feel nuanced, like it progressed throughout. And working with Catherine was a huge part of that, because Bianca got a chance to reflect on, what her relationship could be with her mom. And therefore, [she] brings that energy back to Gabrielle.

DEADLINE: With Dort blackmailing Bianca, is there a chance we’ll see some justice for her in Part 2?
SUNDAY: Well, I can’t say too much, but I do think what goes around comes around, and I’m excited to see how or I’m excited for audiences to see how Bianca makes the best of her situation.
