Meta is overhauling Facebook Marketplace with new collaboration tools, social features, an improved checkout experience, and Meta AI integration, the company announced Thursday.
The Marketplace has added a new “Collections” feature that allows users to create groups of lists and invite friends. Users can get started by saving a list, starting a new collection, and choosing to make it public or private. You can then add friends to your collection and share updates through your feed, Messenger, WhatsApp, and more.
Meta is also testing group buying, which means users can invite friends to chat with sellers. The company says this makes it easier to coordinate pickups, negotiate prices and answer questions.

These new collaborative features could be useful if a group of roommates is considering furniture for a new apartment or if you want to keep your partner in the loop when discussing potential purchases.
Meta says the changes announced Thursday are aimed at making Marketplace more useful, but also demonstrate the company’s continued commitment to bringing Meta AI to all of its services and products. Additionally, by merging social, commerce, and AI, the company hopes to increase time spent on its marketplace while also increasing its competitiveness against other e-commerce platforms.
As for Meta AI integration, Meta plans to start using AI tools to help buyers ask the right questions at the time of purchase. A Suggested Questions button now appears when a user starts a chat with a seller. When a user taps it, Meta AI uses the list and conversation details to suggest questions the user might want to ask.
Additionally, Meta brings AI insights to marketplace vehicle listings, noting that vehicles are among the top five searches for young people. When a user views a vehicle listing, they are presented with AI-generated insights that compile important details such as engine options, safety ratings, transmission type, seating and cargo capacity, reviews, and pricing information.

Meta also announced that users will be able to react and comment directly on listings. The company says this will help others learn about product quality and discover new discoveries. Marketplace has had a simple design since its launch, so it will be interesting to see how people react to this change. Some people may find adding reactions and comments distracting or cluttering the service.
Meta said that if a user likes an item, the marketplace will learn what the user is interested in and show more items based on the user’s preferences.
As part of the announcement, Meta said it began integrating eBay and Poshmark inventory into its marketplace earlier this year to give people more choice when it comes to purchases across categories such as fashion and electronics.
“Partner listings are marked with an icon on the listing image and are integrated throughout the Marketplace feed, so you’ll see them as you browse,” Mehta explained in a blog post. “You can also see listing and seller information on the Marketplace product detail page, and when you’re ready to buy, you can go to our partner’s site to check out.”
When it comes to improving the checkout experience, buyers will be able to see the total cost upfront, including shipping and taxes. You will now also receive notifications when the status of your order changes.
