According to a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is bystandering plans to overhaul Vision Pro VR Glasses to focus on developing AI smart glasses that can compete with Meta’s products.
The company was developing a cheaper and lighter version of the Vision Pro, but Apple has been working on smart glasses from that project.
Bloomberg reports that the tech giant is developing at least two types of smart glasses. The first model, called the N50, is paired with the iPhone and does not have its own display. Apple will be releasing these smart glasses soon next year and will release them in 2027.
The second version of smart glasses the company is working on includes a display. These glasses compete with the Metaray-Ban display, which was announced last month. Apple was planning to release this version of smart glasses in 2028, but the company is currently working to promote development.
Despite recent changes in focus, Apple is lagging behind the meta, which launched its first smart glasses in 2021.
