Hakeem Jeffries To Headline Los Angeles Fundraiser As Democrats Try To Regroup After 2024

-

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will headline a Los Angeles fundraiser next week, in what looks to be a test of donor enthusiasm with Democrats out of power and with the region recovering from the devastating wildfires.

Jeffries is scheduled at appear at a March 19 reception along with Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Rep. Suzanne DelBene (D-WA), who is chairing the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The event will be hosted by longtime community and political activist Hope Warschaw.

Tickets to the event start at $10,000 per couple, rising to $100,000 per couple for event chairs, per an invite. The proceeds will go to the Jeffries Victory Fund, a joint committee that splits contributions between the DCCC, Jeffries’ campaign and PAC.

House Democrats, and Jeffries in particular, have faced a dizzying array of advice on how to respond to Trump as he works to dismantle the federal government and as Republicans look to extend their 2017 tax legislation. The raucous response of some House members to Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress was met with criticism, including fellow Democrats.

But Democrats likely have a solid shot at retaking the House next year, what with the slim GOP majority and the traditional midterm losses of the party in power.
