Warner Bros. Discovery announced Tuesday that it will increase prices on all HBO Max plans, marking yet another price hike for the streaming industry.
The Basic with Ads plan now costs $10.99 per month, an increase of $1. The annual plan price increased by $10 to $109.99.
The standard plan will cost $18.49 per month, an increase of $1.50. The price of the annual plan has increased by $15 to $184.99. The price of the Premium plan is now $22.99 per month, an increase of $2. The annual plan currently costs $229.99, an increase of $20.
For new subscribers, the updated prices will take effect on Tuesday, while for existing customers, the changes will take effect on their first billing cycle after November 20th.
The last time HBO Max increased its price was in June 2024.
The move comes weeks after Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said HBO Max would be priced higher. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia+ Technology Conference last month, Zaslav touted the quality of the content on the platform and said its prices are competitive.
“The fact that this is quality, and that applies to our company, film, TV production, streaming quality across the board, everyone sees it as an opportunity to increase prices,” Zaslav said. “We think our prices are quite competitive.”
Zaslav also said streaming services will crack down on passwords in the future. If HBO Max starts restricting password sharing, it will join other popular streaming services like Netflix and Disney+.
HBO Max’s higher pricing follows other streaming services that have announced price hikes in the past few weeks. Disney recently increased the prices of its Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions, and Apple increased the prices of its streaming services in August.
