In this week’s StrictlyVC Download, TechCrunch Editor-in-Chief Connie Loizos will be chatting with Kara Nortman, co-founder of Monarch Collective, the first fund dedicated to women’s sports.
Noteman launched this $250 million fund in 2023, just before women’s sports exploded into mainstream. But she wasn’t just lucky. She helped create the market as a co-founder of Angel City Football Club, raising revenues from zero to $30 million and proved she could fill the women’s soccer stadium.
The two discuss Monarch’s unusual approach, where teams make a very focused bet, then invest the time most PE companies don’t do. We will also discuss whether the numbers will work, where actual revenue will come from (products, sponsorships, ticket sales, media trading) and whether this boom is sustainable.
