Dario Amody, co-founder and CEO of humanity, will be in India this week. There are plans to set up an office in Bengaluru and explore Mukesh Ambani’s partnership with the reliance industry. The move shows a push to deepen the presence of AI startups in the second largest market after the US
Amodei is scheduled to visit Mumbai to meet Ambani and other senior executives of Reliance Industries, the parent of Reliance Jio, the parent of Reliance Jio, the country’s top telecom operator. People said that humanity has been talking with trust for a while over a potential partnership to expand access to India’s Claude AI assistants.
India – the second largest online market after China, with over 1 billion internet subscribers – has emerged as an important growth region for humanity. Some Indian AI startups have already used the claude model in their products for both domestic and US clients. India also holds the second-highest share of traffic to Claude’s website after the US, according to digital intelligence company Simarweb.

In August, Reliance Industries partnered with leading technology companies, including existing investors Google and Meta, to build AI infrastructure and enterprise solutions through its new unit, Reliance Intelligence. The Mumbai-based conglomerate was also investigating potential collaborations with Openai, which launched its ChatGPT plan for under $5 in India earlier this year and announced plans to open an office in New Delhi in the second half of 2025.
That Reliance-Openai partnership was scheduled to be announced during a trip to India planned by Sam Altman’s Sam Altman last month, but Altman ultimately postponed the trip.
Reliance Industries did not respond to a request for comment. TechCrunch also reached out to Openai for comment.
Alongside Mumbai, Amodei will visit New Delhi to meet top lawmakers and senior federal officials, sources said. He is also expected to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the two, familiar with his travel plans, told TechCrunch.

Later in the week, Amodei will come to Bengaluru and announce the office of humanity on Thursday, sources told TechCrunch. He is accompanied by humanity’s EMEA Headgiao Mo Prinsen and startup chief Daniel Delaney. Notable venture funds, including Accel and Lightspeed, also hosted dedicated sessions with human executives this week, sharing insights into how developers and startups can deliver Claude.
The human Claude app available on iOS and Android increased 48% year-on-year in India in September, reaching around 767,000 installs this year. Consumer spending on Indian apps surged at 572% year-on-year, generating $195,000 in September alone, data shows.

However, India’s figures remain modest compared to those in the US, which saw a 91% rise from the previous year and increased 604% in consumer spending. US users spent $2.5 million on the Claude app in September following AppFigures. Globally, the app has seen a 74% increase in downloads to 1.01 million, with 546% consumer spending rising to $5.62 billion in the same month.
Unlike Openai, which aims to establish sales and marketing setups while overseeing policy updates from New Delhi, it is an artificial plan targeting developers and startups in its Bengaluru office.

Humanity is seeing its greatest usage from India, the founder who has worked closely with AI companies to request anonymity from TechCrunch.
In addition to humanity and Openai, confusion also aims to tap on the Indian market. The company has partnered with Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel to offer Perplexity Pro subscriptions to over 360 million Airtel customers for 12 months. AI Search Startup has refined its products for local users, including launching a live revenue call transcript for Indian stocks to attract more engagement from India.
